Now that the weather is getting warmer, it is time for the citrus fruits to re enter our kitchens!
A favorite in my household is pineapple. With this, almost every week I find myself cutting up a pineapple, if not multiple!
Like most fruits and vegetables, the entirety of the plant is, in fact, edible. Not just the meaty part that we typically associate with these foods. This is true for pineapples, as well.
Whenever I cut up a pineapple, instead of immediately throwing away the skins, I have now adapted the practice of creating pineapple tea. This simply includes throwing the pineapple skins in a pot with filtered water and bringing it to a light simmer/boil. For some added flavor I also like to include cinnamon sticks and a pretty decent amount of agave (you can use honey or sugar if those are your preferences).
While this does in fact create a tasty drink for us to have handy in the refrigerator, this tea also includes a lot of health benefits. Some of which include:
- Aiding in digestion
- Anti-inflammatory
- Boosts immune system
- Clears skin & evens out skin tone
- Anti oxidants
Also, like most teas, this is also another good way to increase your levels of hydration in the rising heat!
Try this out, and enjoy!
